Dolberry is taking 12/02 (& will do his victory rain dance soonafter)

"I am the champion ... my friends.  And I'll keep on predicting 'til the end.  I am the champion.  I AM THE CHAMPION.  No time for losers, cause I am the champion ... of the world."

November results

After barely getting one inch of rain in October, this past month is approaching seven inches.  There were three days w/ rain over 0.75" and the 11th was the rainiest day of the year so far w/ almost three inches.  Looks like 12/02 has an outside chance to knock that day off its perch though.

11/11: 2.97"  (Dolberry, Chowda, APD, Mrs D., Austin)
11/01: 0.92"  (Mrs. J)
11/10: 0.88"

W/ one month left, it looks like Dolberry's got the best shot at the title.  APD could pull off the last month upset, though.

October results

10/24: 0.27" (Dolberry!)
10/12: 0.19" (APD)
10/14: 0.14" (Mrs. D)

It rained on everyone else's day, but not quite enough.  Strange month.  12 days w/ measurable rain, but still barely exceeded one inch of rain (1.10").

Dolberry extends his lead in the standings w/ his second straight three-pointer. Hooray!!

9/07: 0.57"
9/17: 0.37"

9/26 was a close 4th w/ 0.32" (APD, Chowda, Mrs. J, Mrs. D.).  9/10 was a nice dry b-day (Austin).

Dolberry takes the lead in the standings.  Hooray!

July results

7/13: 0.98
7/24: 0.34 (Austin?!?)
7/29: 0.28

It rained 0.27 on the 17th (Mrs. D, Dolberry!) which was 4th.
It rained 0.06 on the 30th (Mrs. J) which was tied for 7th.
It rained 0.03 on the 5th (APD) which was tied for 11th.
It rained a trace on the 28th (Chowda) which was tied for 15th.

Rained on 19 of the 31 days on July, yet we only got 51% of the usual July precip. Suspect that the RDU location got a lot less than we've gotten in Apex.

Mrs. J picks Tomorrow

Results for March

Top 3 days:

3/01: 1.38
3/28: 0.91 (APD and Mr. D)
3/15: 0.87

The 14th came in 4th w/ 0.73" which was the day that Chowda and Jsox took. Mrs. D had a day which rained 0.43 but that was down the list for this rainy month. Believe JR32 had the 22nd last month (correct me if wrong) which was his first non-rainy guess.

March puts APD in a narrow lead.

Friday, March 13, 2009

JSOX is going with tomorrow as well...

I am going with tomorrow...

(3/14) I'm going with tomorrow because there really aren't any long-range threats of lots of rain.

Top 3 Precip Days for February

Wow! Exciting month ... a decent downpour in the 667th (of 672) hour of the month puts today over the top.

2/18: Kyle, Alex, & Mrs. D (0.59)
2/03: Nobody (0.15)

Scoreboard is updated. Mr. D. plans to take the overall lead in March.

February results (prelim):

Halfway through a dry dry month. So far, it's rained only 3 days. Austin is in on the #3 day and has a chance to earn a point if it doesn't rain 0.04 the rest of the month. No one else has guessed to this point.

2/03: 0.15
2/02: 0.11
2/11: 0.04 (Austin)

We are running 1.30" below normal thus far. Chances for very light rain today & tomorrow. Looks like Wednesday is our next shot at Top 3 type rain.

Friday, January 30, 2009

Final January results

Top 3 Precip Days:

1/6: 0.90 (Alex and Kyle)
1/4: 0.62
1/28: 0.42 (Mrs. D and Mr. D)

Mrs J had the 4th day and Austin had the 9th day, which are good efforts but no points.

See what happens on Feb. Early storm next Monday/Tuesday?

Saturday, January 24, 2009

January update: 1/24

Only a few days left in the month and Chowda/Pneumno still look good for picking up 3 points. JSox has a chance for 1 point. JohnRocks was shut out this month although it did rain 0.02 on his day. Mrs and Mr. D still haven't taken their day this month. Here's hoping for rain this last week.

Top 3 days:

1/06: 0.90" (Alex & Kyle)
1/04: 0.62"
1/20: 0.19"

The monthly total is 2.00" which is 0.98 below normal.

Monday, January 19, 2009

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Chance of snow tomorrow, 15:1 or 20:1 ratios possible...

quich inch or two with the heavier snow bursts.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

January update

Top 3 days:

1/06: 0.90" (Alex & Kyle)
1/04: 0.62"
1/07: 0.16"

The monthly total is 1.73" which is 0.61 above normal.

After tonight's rain which had the disadvantage of being close to midnight (& thus split over two days), it looks pretty dry for 5-6 days. Beyond that the hints are for continued dry conditions. (Sorry Austin.)

For all who haven't picked yet...

Contest Rules

Rules:
1. Your goal is to guess the one day on each month on which the most precipitation falls at RDU. So, you only get one guess per month.

2. You may guess your day at anytime, but you must guess the day before it starts (i.e., before midnight).

3. To submit your guess, just write a blog post.

4. Anyone is welcome to participate.

5. If there's a month w/ fewer than 3 days for precip ... then there may not be a 2 or 1 point score.

Scoring:
3 points if your day does have the most precip at RDU.
2 points if your day had the 2nd most precip at RDU.
1 point if your day had the 3rd most precip at RDU.

Example: Last month (Dec 2008) the 3 days w/ the most precip were:
12/11: 1.40" (3 points for anyone who had guessed this day)
12/21: 0.60" (2 points)
12/25: 0.31" (1 point)

Prize:
We'll hand out the Fujita Trophy at the end of the year.
